Navigating your iPhone can be simple once you understand its gestures. Here’s a clear guide to two of the most common ones: Swipe-to-Home and Scroll.
What Is Swipe-to-Home?
The Swipe-to-Home gesture is a flick gesture. It starts from the bottom edge of the screen – where the Home Screen indicator bar is located – and it lands us on the Home Screen where we see all our apps.

Understanding Scroll Gestures
Scrolling is what you do when you want to browse through a lot of content within an app. Simply press on the screen and drag it up or down. This is especially useful when the content exceeds the visible boundaries of your screen.
What to Do If You Feel Stuck
It’s easy to get flustered or disoriented while navigating an app. If that happens:
- Take a deep breath and think about the content you’re trying to view.
- Avoid swiping directly to the Home Screen unless that’s what you need.
- Look at the top of the screen for a “Back” or “Close” button to find your way (see my guide on Mastering iPhone Navigation: Finding Your Way with Back and Close Buttons for more).

Learning these gestures is all about practice! Soon, swiping and scrolling will become second nature. Remember—every tap, swipe, and scroll is a step closer to mastering your iPhone.
